When is it best to book a birth session?
As soon as possible! Because I work with women/families in birth a lot, I only scedule a limited number of births a month. To ensure I can support you, please contact me as soon as possible!
When do you arrive for the birth and how long will you stay?
Once I am informed that you are in the beginning stages of labour, I will prepare to be with you during your bub’s birth. I come to your chosen place of birth during active labour, will locate to your place of birth (if need be) and will stay for two hours afterwards so that I can capture the whole experience.
What kind of photographs do you take in a birth?
My photography style is photo journalistic. In photographing you, I work to capture each individual moment so that at the end, they all come together to relate a story- the journey of your birth. I can capture as much, or as little as you like. If you are a more modest person, you may wish to choose what aspects of the birth are photographed and those that aren't. In this case, I will fully respect your decision and will provide you with images that reflect your values. Alternatively, you might be a very open person and want to capture everything, or perhaps you feel somewhere in between the two. Either way, our initial meeting is an opportunity to establish what aspects you would like to include!
What if I have to have a Caesarean?
Whether scheduled or unscheduled, having a C-section can make photographing your birth even more important. As your photographer, I can capture the story of your little one’s arrival from a different perspective that either you or your family may not be able to.
Note: My presence in the operating room is ultimately the decision of the anesthetist and the OB and needs to be negotiated with them.
Will photographs from my birth be posted on your website?
I only post images that have been approved by the families I have consent from. You will be able to view your images before any are shared in any way and approve which ones you’d allow me to share. Only the first names of the baby will be shared on the website.
